Sustainability Deer Velvet Harvesting

Deer Velvet is the soft, cartilaginous tissue that grows on the antlers of male deer. This tissue has the unique ability to regenerate annually. Each year, during spring and early summer, male deer naturally shed their antlers, which then regrow over the following months. This regenerative process allows for the sustainable harvesting of Deer Velvet without causing permanent harm to the deer.

How to choose the best Deer Velvet?

Deer velvet can be divided into five segments: tips, uppers, middles, bottoms and bases. Each part comes with different nutritional values.

The tips and upper parts of deer antler velvet (the last 50mm) are rich in protein, growth factors and lipids, and are thus more valued due to their high efficacy.

In contrast, the base and bottom segments of deer antler velvet have higher mineral ash content with larger pores in the middle with a dark ring outside. This segment has the least bioactive components and is therefore lower in nutritional value.
